SYSLAB launches its 2nd phase: consolidated network of career advisory centres

The existing network of SYSLAB Career Centres will be further consolidated, with emphasis on entrepreneurship component, after a successful rate of almost 80% of beneficiaries being employed.  

The launching event of Phase 2 of SYSLAB Project took place on 23 October in Chisinau SYSLAB Career Development Centre. This second stage represents a logical continuation of the 1st one, Innovative Entrepreneurship for Sustainable Employment Project, started in 2013 and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme in Moldova with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Norway.

In the opening of the event, UN Resident Coordinator / UNDP Resident Representative Dafina Gercheva remarked that ‘the gap between the demand and the supply of the labour market has been continuously addressed through the network of existing five SYSLAB Centres and it is a pleasure to announce the launching of the new phase of the project which will further strengthen the network.’ The official also referred to the expectations and aspirations of the people of Moldova expressed during the national consultations on the future of the country: ‘Decent jobs are amongst the listed priorities,’ and ‘SYSLAB addresses these needs by promoting innovative entrepreneurship spirit and generating employment,’ concluded she.

In his turn, Deputy Prime-Minister, Minister of Economy Stephane Christophe Bride expressed his appreciation for the results of the previous phase of SYSLAB, highlighting the importance of its continuation ‘in order to further consolidate the existing network and ensure integration in the labour market of qualified unemployed people, recent graduates and returning migrants.’ The official also ensured the project of Ministry’s full support in the implementation of SYSLAB 2.0.

The five existing Career Development Centres created in the Republic of Moldova and operating under the SYSLAB methodology assist qualified unemployed people in getting relevant employment on the local job market or initiating their own business. By September 2015, Career Development Centres assisted around 500 persons, out of which 78% got employed and 4% created an individual business plan and/or started his/her own business.  I

In the 2nd phase of the Project it is envisaged to consolidate the employment component through a better coordination of SYSLAB methodology among the 5 Career Development Centres, and build a stronger entrepreneurship component through the development and implementation of a dedicated self-employment programme. A budget of NOK12 mln was allocated for the implementation of the project. Currently, SYSLAB Centres operate in Chisinau, Balti, Cahul, Comrat and Rezina.
