Background

Organizational Setting

FAO in partnership with the Government of Moldova is implementing the project TCPF: Developing the institutional capacity of the National Forestry Agency in the preparation of National Forest Inventory. The main objective of the project is to strengthen national capacities to design, plan and conduct a forest inventory at the national level. The expected impact of the project is to have an improved system of planning and monitoring of forest resources, contributing significantly to sustainable forest management, rural development and biodiversity conservation.

 

Reporting Lines

Under the overall supervision of the FAO Regional Representative for Europe and Central Asia, the technical supervision of the FAO Forestry Officer - LTO, the operational supervision of the Field Programme Officer and Budget Holder (REU) and in collaboration with other consultants and FAO personnel involved in the project, as well as national counterparts and stakeholders, the incumbent will undertake the following activities specified below.

Tasks and responsibilities

 

General:

  • Perform an expert analysis of total estimates of land categories and their changes. Compare CE survey results with information existing at the national level.

 

Specific objectives:

  • The consultant will assist the International Consultant for Forest Monitoring during the estimation of total areas by FAO FRA and IPCC land categories and their changes between 2009 and 2019 for the whole territory of Moldova and (possibly) its sub-regions (to be defined by the consultant itself);
  • A close collaboration with the National Expert on Remote Sensing is foreseen and vital for successful completion of the tasks;
  • The consultant will compile a technical report summarising the main results of the CE survey including a comparison of these results to existing national information on forests.
