Mayors in Moldova will manage local affairs in a more efficient manner
10 November 2015
Mayors in Moldova will manage local affairs in a more efficient manner following the trainings organized by the Academy of Public Administration with the support of the Joint Integrated Local Development Programme.
“During November all the mayors will learn to improve local decision-making processes, as well as the competences of local elected officials, performance-based budgeting and efficient management of public services”, stated Aurelia Tepordei, Head of the Professional Development Department at the Academy of Public Administration.
The trainees will discuss subjects related to functioning of local government, human rights and gender equity in public policies, management of local public services, public property, efficient management of local public finance in a fiscal decentralized setting.
“Being a local elected official is a huge responsibility. The quality of people’s life depend on their knowledge, competences and attitude. For this reason, since 2007 we have supported sustainable and continuous local development and have organized training of local officials. This is the third training cycle of the newly elected officials. This year this type of training will become available online, on an e-learning platform”, stated Mihai Roscovan, Manager of the Joint Integrated Local Development Programme.
Nine hundred mayors will benefit from these trainings.
“Provided that approximately half of mayors were elected for the first time, this training is a must. Those who became mayors for a second mandate required training repeatedly, in the context of the decentralization reform”, added Aurelia Tepordei.
12 thousand local officials will also receive The Guide of the local elected official by the end of the year.
The Joint Integrated Local Development Programme (JILDP) is implemented by the Government of the Republic of Moldova in partnership with UNDP Moldova and UN Women, with the financial support of the Governments of Denmark and Sweden.
