Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration and United Nations launch Sustainable Development Goals in Moldova
16 October 2015

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of the Republic of Moldova and the United Nations held today a joint press conference to announce the launch of the Sustainable Development Goals in Moldova. A Council on Sustainable Development will be established under the Office of the Prime Minister to localize the Global Goals.

The 17 Sustainable Development Goals, approved by the United Nations General Assembly on 25 September 2015, represent a set of global goals to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all. Each goal has specific targets to be achieved over the next 15 years.

“The people of Moldova can be proud of the role they played in the development of these global Goals. They were developed in a transparent global consultation process where the Government and people of Moldova participated actively and had a strong voice”, said Dafina Gercheva, UN Resident Coordinator/UNDP Resident Representative. “The United Nations will now offer its full support to the people of Moldova, the Government, civil society and the private sector to come together and implement the Sustainable Development Goals, creating a better future for Moldova, where no one is left behind”.

“The 2030 Agenda, adopted recently at the UN Summit in New York, provides a clear framework to work with the United Nations Country Team. This agenda reflects a new development vision which implies reducing inequalities, ensuring prosperity for each and everyone and promoting economic development and preserving human capital”, said Natalia Gherman, Deputy Prime Minister, the Minister of Foreign Affairs. “We are to jointly establish specific indicators for achieving this agenda in Moldova”.
