CHISINAU, 15 September 2012 –The UN Refugee Agency, UNHCR, and the refugee community in the Republic of Moldova participated in the Ethnic Festival organized by the Bureau of Interethnic Relations and the Mayoralty of Chisinau Municipality.
UNHCR’s implementing partner - Charity Center for Refugees- assisted refugees and asylum seekers to participate at the event. A photo exhibition of images of refugees residing in Moldova was displayed in the Public Garden Stefan cel Mare. The participants displayed their national costumes and were eager to help members of the public learn about the traditions and cultures of their countries of origin. Their participation in the annual festival helped promote Moldova's important role as a country of asylum for persons fleeing persecution and war. Among the visitors to the stand was President of the Republic of Moldova, Mr. Nicolae Timofti.
