The UN Journalists' Club was established by the UN Resident Coordinator Office in Moldova in September 2001 as part of its media cooperation strategy. The major objective of this effort was to create an interactive information exchange network that would promote the UN values and objectives and sustain its activities and impact.
The Club was officially inaugurated and its operation procedures designed at the journalists' retreat which took place on September 14-15, 2001. The key purpose of the retreat was to introduce the newly elected members of the Club in the UN system - mandate and objectives - and its presence in Moldova as well as define joint activities of the UN Agencies and media in the future.
The UN Journalists' Club is very efficient in the promotion of the UN activities in the country. Journalists feel very proud to be part of this network and they enjoy working and learning in such a team. They benefit from trainings organized by the UN Agencies and have more access to information about UN and other materials. They participate in media-related activities of the UN Agencies: competitions for journalists, write articles for various UN publications, public awareness campaigns, etc. They are unique in the sense that they are knowledgeable about the UN and its global and country presence. Journalists perceive their participation in the Club as a good opportunity for their professional growth and personal development. Members of the Club share knowledge and communicate among themselves, etc.
The UN Journalists' Club produces a monthly electronic newsletter "UN Action" which covers UN events and activities at the global and local level and is disseminated among partners, beneficiaries, donors, students, NGOs and UN Agencies.
