The Government of the Republic of Moldova has been involved in a massive effort to promote economic growth and reduce poverty in the country. This commitment has the purpose of establishing the direction for the country development in the near future. The Economic Growth and Poverty Reduction Strategy (EGPRS) is characterised by several peculiarities:
- EGPRS is a short-term country development strategy (3 years), where clear and feasible priorities have been established.
- EGPRS priorities have been aligned to the long-term country development priorities, stipulated in the Strategy for Sustainable Development of the Republic of Moldova, thus ensuring continuity.
- Concurrently, EGPRS represents an assessment of the issues in priority areas and of the internal resources in order to ensure a more rational use thereof.
- EGPRS continues the dialogue with the donor community that are willing to offer financial and technical assistance to our country.
- EGPRS reflects the country's desire to reduce poverty by creating the necessary conditions for economic development and for assisting the people worst hit by poverty.
- EGPRS constitutes a chance for the Republic of Moldova to consolidate the society around the idea of poverty reduction, thus demonstrating its maturity.
- EGPRS represents the country's subscription to the process that is of great concern to the international community - Development Objectives of the Millennium
