***********************************************************
Yesterday, the government of The Netherlands decided to provide immediate assistance to the victims of the recent floodings in parts of Ukraine and Moldova. The Netherlands’ government has contributed in total 100.000 EUR to the Netherlands’ Red Cross in order to assist the Ukrainian and Moldovan Red Cross in their relief operations. With the pledge of 100.000 EUR, The Netherlands substantially contributes to the recent emergency appeal (MDR67003) for Ukraine and Moldova, that was issued on 05 August 2008 by the IFRC (International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies).
The beneficiaries of the Dutch contribution will be the people worst affected by the floods, in particular those who have lost their homes and possessions and are in need of immediate food and water supplies. The Dutch contribution will focus on providing food and clean water, non food items (blankets, bedding), emergency shelters, health care and sanitation equipment and general support to the Ukraine and Moldova Red Cross. Finally, local Red Cross organisations in both Ukraine and Moldova will be supported in their relief efforts.
