
Project organized with an award from the Educational and Cultural Affairs Bureau of the U.S. Department of State, through a program implemented by IREX (the International Research and Exchanges Board), with the support of U.S. Embassy Alumni Resource Center and the U.N. Office in Moldova
Model United Nations Moldova (February-April 2010) aims to develop a greater awareness of the complexities of the world’s problems, the need to find cooperative solutions, and the important role that the U.N. plays in the search for these solutions.
The project includes 2 phases:
- Training/workshop sessions on United Nations history, structure, role. Rules of procedure and resolution writing. Public speaking. The process of debate and negotiations. Diplomatic strategies and bloc politics;
- Simulation phase: 2-day Conference.
Why get involved in Model U.N. Moldova?
Attend a 6-week program of sessions (1 session/week) with professional trainers, special guest speakers and leaders with experience in the area. The program will also include video conference with Model U.N. leaders in other countries.
Take on the role of an Ambassador to the U.N. by representing an assigned country in a Committee at the Conference in April and debate the issues on the agenda. Caucus, hold speeches, promote your country’s policy, form alliances and draft resolutions.
Cooperate and get in contact with leaders of the community. Socialize and improve inter-personal skills such as confidence and consensus building, cooperation, team work, tolerance.
Youth participation leads to better decisions. Commit to spread the Model U.N. concept, lead university-based Model U.N. teams and participate at International Model U.N. Conferences.
Who can participate?
- students (undergraduate/graduate degree) aged 18-24
- advanced level of English
- active members of the community
